New topic: “Australian Election Looming” by

How does a Christian decide where to cast their vote when an election is looming? It is not simply a matter of placing ticks in boxes on a ballot paper and hoping your chosen candidate wins their seat. If it were that simple then I would not be writing this blog.

A person with the right to vote in an election also carries a very real responsibility to ensure that their vote is not wasted, or ‘bartered’ away in some back room deal. They need to know what policies their chosen candidate and their political party stand upon.

Well the regional trade shows have begun! The first day @ Perth has been very positive. Many great discussions (and orders) had. A total of 15 wholesalers have been represented. If Perth is any indication of the regionals this year, you won\'t want to miss the one closest to you.

If you could see a change or addition to regionals, what would it be?

Reply to “Recent CBAA September Event” by melinda@heartsong

As a 1st-timer to a CBAA event, I must say how encouraged I was by the unity of spirit and purpose I experienced at the Canberra Trade Show. From the moment I walked thru\' the doors to set up my stand, to the last hours of packing up, I was impressed by the care and warmth of everyone there. This wasn\'t the sort of trade event I was used to.

Most secular trade events are characterised by self-centredness and competitiveness no matter the cost, looking out for No.1. Instead, I was overwhelmed by Christ/gospel-centredness, caring for one another, and helping each other work towards a common goal. Praying, reading the Word and worshipping together is truly wonderful.

As a 1st-timer, I was told not to expect too much, but everyone was so encouraging and supportive of Heartsong, and our goals of being good environmental as well as heavenly citizens. So, thank you to all for showing me what Christ-centred business looks like.

The recent CBAA was a blessing for me in many ways, but the most impacting was hearing what the members are doing through-out Autralia. From Forbes Christian Bookshop and the work with the refuge; to Open Door Temora being the \'God shop\' with 75% secular trade, and the cookbook they produced with recipes and real God stories from the local Christian elders; to SU Inverell and the unifying work with all churches and local schools; to ABC Store in Cooranbong and their data base management / loyalty programs and community networking to get Bibles to the Islands to replace Jehovah witness text; I could write on and on of these stories. These stories highlighted that as I/we serve where God has called us to serve (foundation), listen to community needs, Jesus will shine through and be The Light on the Hill.

New topic: “Decorating your shop for Christmas...” by admin

We found some old Christmas decorations in our shed earlier this year. I think they will probably be classed as retro in another 5 years. But in the meantime they have been relegated to the archives. Just wondering how you decorate your shop for Christmas? Is it just by displaying Christmas stock prominently? Or do you use other props?

New topic: “Louie Giglio on Suffering & Relationships” by admin

Many of you will have watched Indescribable and probably also How Great is our God - both presentations giving us awe-inspiring glimpses of our God - the Creator. I highly recommend Louie Giglio\'s other talks. Hope is a two part DVD series on the topic of suffering - no pretty pictures - but amazing stories of people resting in God\'s love during difficult times. Also highly recommended is Louie\'s 4 part series on relationships - particularly targeted at 18-25 year olds. The series is called My really bad date, and while Louie provides great advice on minimising emotional baggage, and having healthy, open relationships - he continually points people to finding fulfillment, approval, and wholeness in our relationship with God. God has put his heart on the table - in the most painful, difficult, sacrificial way - through the death of His son. He has sought out a relationship with us, will we accept the relationship? Absolutely fantastic, engaging talks for young adults and teens.
